Detours and Delight

I am so excited for this weekend for two main reasons:
  1. It will be the WEEKEND!
  2. The Des Moines Arts Festival will be happening!!!! Woot!
The reason I had to detour this morming
Okay, so those are pretty lame reasons to be excited. Get over it.

As you can see from the wonderful photo, the Arts Festival starts tomorrow. I truly loved going to it last year, while Kaila and Kody were less than excited. I had to work at it all three days last year because of my internship at DMRG, so I was immersed in all things art.

This year, since I don't have to work in the heat all weekend (and I don't think it is even supposed to be hot), I want to go. I may or may not drag Kaila and Kody along this year, as well. They better be prepared for an impromptu visit downtown.

 What I loved Last Year

  1. The VAST array of people I saw/met there. You will never see a more diverse group of people (except maybe at the DMV).
  2. I learned that "art" is not just paintings and sculptures. I met some highly talented artists last year.
  3. Free samples of things!!! This was hard to find, but since I worked there, people would come up and give us random things. I had more kettle corn and cookies than I knew what to do with.
  4. The Emerging Iowa Artists section
  5. The Student Artists section

Let me be my nerdy self for a few more minutes. I have always considered myself a crafty person (I can cross stitch, braid, make things out of plastic canvas, macrame, vaguely crochet), but I am nothing compared to the people featured at the Arts festival. I also have to put a disclaimer on the festival because it is an arts festival, and not just a crafts festival. There is music, dancing, photography - you name it. I have always had the dream of having my things sold at a booth at a craft show (heck, even on Etsy would work for me) and this lets me be inspired at least for a few days.

T minus 24 hours until it begins! Hooray!

Go here. You won't regret it.
