I hate to sound rude or self-conceited, but it really bothers me when someone does not get my name right. For instance, I am bothered when someone spells my name "Erin," because that is not my name. My name is Eryn. To me, those are different names.
Likewise, when someone spells my name wrong, I take it as someone who does not care enough about me to spell my name right. It is only four letters. Take the time to pick the correct four.
I am used to responding emails and messages to Erin, but I do not like doing so. In others' defense, I do understand why it is so easy to spell my name incorrectly, but I take it as a personal offense. I feel insignificant and worthless. Why are you wasting your time writing me an email if you don't care enough about me to spell my name correctly?
This is just something on my mind today because it seems many people are forgetting how important a name is to a person. Your name is your identity. You only get one in life. You want others to know yours.
