I had a visit with my English professor for Structures of Modern American English today. We had been working on analyzing a selected piece of work based on grammar, structure, and the like. She was confused in only a way I could make someone confused.
"I never understand what people mean when they say 'something flows'," she said.
"Well, I think this flows because it says 'this and this' instead of putting them together as two adjectives. It makes the sentence flow better," I said.
"So it makes you stop?" She asked.
"Yeah. And think about it more than if they were together without an and," I said.
"So it makes you stop?" She asked again. I was getting confused.
"Yeah..." I said.
"How is stopping flowing? Isn't it stopping? Not flowing?" She said.
"Well yeah, but it flows," I said.
"You mean it doesn't flow?" She asked.
"Yeah," I said.

She ended the part of that conversation there. This basically summarizes my meeting with her.
Before I left, she asked me what I have for a major. She assumed I was an education major since only education majors take the class. And crazies. I am a crazy. I told her my marketing, advertising, writing story and she laughed.
Apparently it is obvious that I would not make a good teacher. Confusing people doesn't help them learn.
