I was born in America. I know you are probably thinking, duh Eryn. Or maybe you are thinking, so what?
I had a humbling realization today in my Finance class. America makes up 4.5% of the world's population. Maybe at the time I was born, it made up more like 6%. Maybe less. I really don't know the trend here. What I do know is that there was only about a 5% chance of me being born here in America. There was a 95% chance I was going to be born somewhere else. NINETY FIVE.
I take for granted what it really means that I live here in America. America, the land of the free. I can say what I want to say. I can wear what I want to wear. I am free to choose who I want to marry and I am free to choose my religion. I can be a woman and have a job. I can drive a car. I can vote.
Sometimes I feel like America is the only nation in the world. But 95% of the world doesn't live here and can't experience these freedoms. Draw 100 people in the world at random and only 5 will be from America.
God has truly blessed me to put me here in America. 95% of the world wasn't that lucky. The odds were not in my favor that I was going to be born here, yet I take that for granted. How privileged I truly am.
