Today I had my blood drawn. For what is a pretty typical procedure, nothing about this morning was typical.
Firstly, I had to fast. I am a bear when I do not eat, especially in the morning. That was not a good start to my visit.
When Kaila and I got there, there were about six or so people ahead of us, only building up the tension as my stomach growled and turned all at the same time.

The lovely "bandage" |
I was called in just after 8 a.m. and the woman chatted me up a little bit. I immediately made sure to interject, "I hate blood." I hate blood. This is an understatement of great proportions. Blood is gross, runny, dark, and scary. I pass out when I see blood. I also pass out on an empty stomach. Those two mixed together mean I have indefinite shaky knees.
I had to have the most unprofessional nurse I have ever encountered. When she finally got the needle in my arm, she had to take 3 vials of blood. No big deal. However, every single time she popped in a new vial, she jabbed the needle back and forth in my vein. She wiggled around that needle so much I thought it might come poking through somewhere up my arm. UCK.
Finally, she finished getting my blood from the vials and takes the needle out. Of course, blood goes dripping everywhere. It was all down my arm, pooled on the arm rest, and about to get on my white skirt.
This is my nightmare! Blood. Gross. Clean it up. NOW. It took all I had to get my mind off the blood and onto something else. I joked around with Kaila for a bit while the woman cleaned up my blood from the table and from me. Thank goodness she was there.
