In my
advertising class on Tuesday, we discussed different culture groups. We
broke down these "groups" by religion, sex, race - you name it. We dug
even more into the religion component.
Apparently, 71% of Americans call themselves Christian, which is much higher than the world's percentage. I was utterly shocked. 71%? That number seemed too high.
We
then broke down the Christian group even more. It contained religions
such as Protestant, Catholic, Baptist, Lutheran, Latter Day Saints,
Jehovah's Witnesses....wait....what were those last two? Latter Day
Saints and Jehovah's Witnesses?
Can
I get on my high horse for a short time? Too bad, I am doing it anyway.
LDS and JW are NOT Christian religions. Sure, they have a few Christian
principles, but they are not Christian. They do not rely solely on the
Bible, one trait of a Christian religion, so they are not Christian.
Plain and simple.
So now I sound like a bigot. What makes you so sure you are right? Because the Bible says so.
Deuteronomy 4:2
You shall not add to the word which I am commanding you, nor take away from it, that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.
You shall not add to the word which I am commanding you, nor take away from it, that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.
I
do not believe LDS is a Christian religion because it also uses the
Book of Mormon. I have that book sitting on my kitchen table right now.
NOTHING about that book is Christian. Some guy about a century ago
thought he was a prophet (or so he said) and wanted attention so he
created LDS. That doesn't make him a Christian. It makes him in
opposition to God to think he can write his own book about God and call
it true.
